Integrated Flight Training Program:

Program Goal
The overall goal of the Integrated Commercial Pilot Program is to have a student achieve all requirements of professional pilot training in order to receive an Integrated Commercial Pilot Program.

Pre-Entry Requirements
Each applicant will have obtained the following prior to acceptance in the program:

1. Received a Category 1 Medical from an approved Canadian Medical Examiner
2. Must be 17 years of age
3. Must have at least a grade 10 education
4. If Aero Academy management decide that an applicant requires an English language course, the applicant must be enrolled in such a program.

Credits for Previous Experience
If a student has previous flying experience, his/her experience will be credited towards his/her Integrated Commercial Pilot License in accordance to the Transport Canada regulations.

Training Schedule
Each student’s training schedule will be set out by his/her instructor and shall be arranged to achieve the overall goal of the program in an efficient manner and within the allocated time period. Any scheduled flight that is cancelled due to weather, illness, equipment or other reasons, shall be replaced instead by a ground training session.

The entire Integrated Commercial Pilot program shall last for between 12 months from the date of enrollment.

Student Training Policies
The following are policies set out to achieve a safe method of flight training:

  1. Students may fly a maximum of 4 hours flight time in any given 24 hour period, but may be extended under the discretion of the Chief Flight Instructor
  2. Students will have a maximum training period, or “duty day” of 12 hours
  3. Dual flights will not exceed 1.5 hours in length (flight time) until the student has reached the “cross country navigation” level outlined in the syllabus. Therein no flight shall exceed 2.0 hours unless it is a cross country flight, a pre-flight test or progress check.
  4. Rest time between training periods or “duty time” for students shall be a minimum of 10 consecutive hours.

Attendance Policies
Any flight, ground, synthetic or other training towards the issuance of an Integrated Commercial Pilot License shall be attended by each student to the best of their ability. If a student fails to attend a scheduled session the time, date and reason for absenteeism will be noted. If a student frequently fails to attend training sessions, his/her enrollment in the program will be under review at the discretion of the Chief Flight Instructor.

Students are required to attend all Ground School classes, however if a class is missed the student may make up for it by means of a self study. The student will not be eligible for an Integrated Commercial Pilot License unless all classes are attended. A student may not use a self study program to make up for more than 5% of the total Ground School classes.

Each Flight and Ground Instruction session that a student misses will be recorded by his/her instructor. Each Ground School lesson not attended will be recorded on the Ground School attendance sheet.

Training Records

  1. All flight training, ground training and ground school instruction will be kept on record in the students Pilot Training Record (PTR). Flight instructors will be required to keep accurate and up to date records. The Chief Flight Instructor (CFI) will periodically check the students PTR to evaluate the progression of the student and the quality and instruction being given to the student.
  2. Personal Logbooks are the responsibility of each student. Personal logs must be filled out as accurately as possible and kept up to date. It is the instructors responsibility to periodically check the logbook for accuracy.

Progress Checks
Flight progress checks will be carried out to determine a student’s ability to handle the learning material, and will be handled by the Chief Flight Instructor or delegate. These checks will occur at the following stages:

  1. After completion of stage 1 training
  2. After completion of stage 3 training
  3. After completion of stage 5 training. This check will encompass all Private Pilot flight test items and must be completed in order to advance to further stages of training. This check may only be performed by the Chief Flight Instructor
  4. Prior to Integrated Commercial Pilot License flight test

Each flight progress check must be completed in order to advance to the next stage of training. The following are policies regarding progress check results:

  1. The results of each check will be recorded on an approved company check sheet and kept in the students file
  2. If a student fails a progress check they will undergo further review at the discretion of his/her instructor
  3. A student may re-test as many times as needed until a satisfactory result is achieved or the Chief Flight Instructor determines that the student cannot pass the check regardless of further training
  4. The stage 5 progress check will include all Private Pilot flight test items, including all ground questions

Ground progress checks will be performed by means of internal review and exams which include the following:

  1. Review material will be provided to all students for each Ground School class and must be completed in order for that class to count towards total Ground School time
  2. Before a student writes the Transport Canada Integrated Commercial Pilot License exam, he/she must pass an internal exam of the same caliber. When completed and a mark of at least 70% in each subject is achieved the student will be recommended to write the Transport Canada exam. A student may re-write the internal exam three times. If he/she cannot pass after three attempts their progress will be reviewed by the Chief Flight Instructor

Training Effectiveness
The following procedures describe how the progress of a students training will be monitored and corrected if necessary:

  1. Every student will be required to arrive at least 15 minutes before a scheduled flight or ground lesson. The student will have all documents, tasks and assignments completed prior to arrival
  2. If a student is not adequately prepared for a flight or ground lesson the lesson will not take place. The instructor will brief the student on any assignments not understood and record the non-compliance in the student’s file.
